Alistair Brownlee to undergo hip surgery

Double Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee is hopeful hip surgery will keep him competing for many years, despite being ruled out of competition for the rest of 2017.

Brownlee made the move to Ironman events earlier in the year, winning on his debut at the North American Championships in May.

The 29-year-old briefly returned to the World Triathlon Series when it came to Leeds, near his home town of Bramhope, in June.

The four-time world triathlon champion beat his younger brother in the race which snaked through city-centre streets packed with cheering fans.
