Dear Basketball also won an Oscar in the animated short film category in March.
The five-time NBA champion was an executive producer of the film that detailed his journey through his basketball career. It starts with Bryant as a child, chronicles his time in the sport and features work from animator Glen Keane, who worked on the likes of The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.
Dear Basketball is based on the poem Bryant wrote in 2015 for the Players’ Tribune and defeated NBC’s Sunday Night Football, ESPN’s Monday Night Football and CBS’ Thursday Night Football for the Sports Emmy.
