Stacey Dash is no longer running for Congress.
The Clueless star has withdrawn from her congressional race just one month after announcing her campaign for California’s 44th district.
In a statement posted to Twitter on Friday, Dash said that “holding elected office would be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of my family,” and that the constituents of the 44th district “deserve a representative who is fully dedicated to improving their lives.”
“After much prayer, introspection and discussions with my family, I am withdrawing my candidacy. I started this run with the intention to address the pressing issues in the district where I live. I hoped, and remain hopeful, that I can assist people living here on the national level. My goal was, and remains, to improve the lives of people who have been forgotten for decades by the Democratic Party,” Dash began.
“I believe that the overall bitterness surrounding our political process, participating in the rigors of campaigning, and holding elected office would be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of my family,” she continued. “I would never want to betray the personal and spiritual principles I believe in most: that my God and my family come first.”
Dash announced her run on Feb. 26 with a campaign called “Dash to D.C.” The 44th district is currently represented by Democrat Nanette Barragán, who was elected in 2016.
“It’s time for me to put up or shut up and I want to serve great people,” she tweeted at the time.
While Dash’s political aspirations were short lived, she hasn’t been shy about sharing her opinions over the last few years. She became a Fox News contributor in 2014, and was briefly suspended in 2015 over a profanity-laden remark she made on air about former President Barack Obama. Dash left Fox after her contract was not renewed in fall 2016.
