The Game Loses $20M Lawsuit Against Viacom

The Game has come up empty-handed in his $20 million lawsuit against Viacom, according to The Blast. The publication reports a judge has denied the Compton rapper’s attempt to hold the media company liable for a multimillion-dollar payment he was ordered to pay in 2016.

The Game hit Viacom with a lawsuit in May 2017, suggesting the company should fork over the $7.1 million a judge ordered him to pay stemming from a separate lawsuit filed against him by a contestant on his 2015 VH1 dating show She’s Got Game.

Priscilla Rainey accused The Game of sexual assault during an after-hours date and subsequently won the case against him in 2016.

The Game argued Viacom should cover the bill as the company were responsible for casting Rainey despite knowing about her criminal history, which allegedly included multiple felony arrests for battery. He also claimed the media company knew of Rainey’s history with mental illness.

A judge reportedly sided with Viacom in a hearing on Tuesday (June 5). The court stated Viacom’s casting of Rainey was merely an exercise of its free speech rights.

Viacom is correct,” the ruling reads, according to The Wrap. “Courts have held that the ‘creation of a television show,’ including the ‘writing, casting, and broadcasting’ of a television show, is an exercise of free speech.”

The Game previously stated that Rainey “will never see $10,000,000 or anything close to a penny of my money.”
