Rap icon, Jay-Z has finally dropped his highly anticipated 13th studio album, 4:44, on Friday Morning.
The anticipation had been building for weeks with massive promotion by Tidal. The track 4:44 already got the BeyHives in a frenzy after he admitted to cheating on his wife, Beyonce, in which he tendered a public apology for his alleged infidelity.
He sang “who needs a menage a trots (threesome) when you have a soulmate”.“I apologise, often womanize. Took my child to be born. See through a woman’s eyes. Took for these natural twins to believe in miracles.”
Another surprising revelations comes on the album’s third track, Smile, when Jay reveals that his mom, Gloria Carter, is a lesbian.
‘Momma had 4 kids but she’s a lesbian/had to pretend so long that she’s a thesbian/Had to hide in the closet, so she medicate. ‘Society shame and the pain was too much to take/Cried tears of joy when you fell in love/Don’t matter to me if it’s a him or her.’
Jay’s mom then gets a feature role on the track with a spoken word performance about her sexuality, where she tells people: ‘Love who you love, because life isn’t guaranteed’.
Jay-Z’s last full-length album was Magna Carta Holy Grail in 2013.
For now, it is available to Tidal subscribers, the music streaming service owned by Jay-Z.
